Eastern Black Swallowtail Butterfly

A New Experience

After years of rescuing Monarchs, our new butterfly garden has given us the opportunity to stretch our butterfly adventures into new frontiers.  We found two Eastern Swallowtail caterpillars and two eggs on our dill plant.  One of the eggs hatched and we had three.  Sadly, one of the caterpillars did not make it.  Watching the two caterpillars has been quite exciting.  Admittedly, it has been a little more exciting than the monarchs just because it is so new to us (we still LOVE our monarchs). The process these caterpillars go through has been amazing to watch.  Here are some pictures of their growth so far.
